This textbook introduces the basic concepts and results of mathematical control and system theory. It presents its subject in a self-contained and elementary fashion. It is geared to an audience consisting of mathematically mature advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate students.
It covers what constitutes the common core of control theory and is unique in its emphasis on foundational aspects. While covering a wide range of topics written in a standard theorem/proof style, it also develops the necessary techniques from scratch. In this second edition, new chapters and sections have been added, dealing with time optimal control of linear systems, variational and numerical approaches to nonlinear control, nonlinear controllability via Lie-algebraic methods, and controllability of recurrent nets and of linear systems with bounded controls.
In addition, it can be used by engineering students interested in a rigorous, proof-oriented systems course that goes beyond the classical frequency-domain material and more applied courses.
About the Authors- Eduardo D. Sontag is an American mathematician, and Distinguished University Professor at Northeastern University, who works in the fields control theory, dynamical systems, systems molecular biology, cancer and immunology, theoretical computer science, neural networks, and computational biology.

Control Theory Tutorial: Illustrated by Software Examples
This book introduces the basic principles of control theory in a concise self-study guide. It complements the classic texts by emphasizing the simple conceptual unity of the subject. A novice can quickly see how and why the different parts fit together.
-
Discrete-Event Control of Stochastic Networks (Eitan Altman, et al)
Opening new directions in research in both discrete event dynamic systems as well as in stochastic control, this volume focuses on a wide class of control and of optimization problems over sequences of integer numbers.
-
Feedback Control Theory (John C. Doyle, et al)
An excellent introduction to feedback control system design, this book offers a theoretical approach that captures the essential issues and can be applied to a wide range of practical problems.
-
Stochastic Modeling and Control (Ivan Ganchev Ivanov)
The book provides a self-contained treatment on practical aspects of stochastic modeling and calculus including applications drawn from engineering, statistics, and computer science.
